First drive

Well, it took a bit longer thay first anticipated, 437 days to be precise, but I finally got there. My first drive made all those hours working on the car worth while.

I had a few minor adjustments to sort out, but first drive went very well. The engine has an incredible amount of torque, with traction control been disabled (for the time been) wheel spin was an issue, never the less it was great fun and I look forward to those long drives through the Adelaide hills.

All going well we will be going for our official test drive in three weeks.

It's now time to start the body work.

It breathes

I finally got the tank finished, 80L capacity. It didn't come out to bad, it's been quite a while sence my last aluminium welding job.

Starting it for the first time was relatively easy, once I had all the plugs connected. Not knowing what I had purchased (it terms of engine quality) made this monent a little nerve racking. Hence, I was very relieved when it started firing on all eight cylinders. It runs like an absolute gem, with only 27500km on the clock it has done very little work.

This coming week I will be getting it ready for my first test drive, this will, indeed be interesting.

Radiator

Past couple of weeks I have been busy fitting radiator and fitting brake lines.

I decided to use the larger fan that came with the car, this ment fabricating the fan housing as the original was a one piece plastic unit made for the standard radiator.

Although ground clearence is 130mm, the longer wheel base gives the impression of being less.

Have key

When I purchased my car I was not aware it didn't have an ignition key. This was a disappointment as I intented to keep the factory fitted immobilizer, however, when I discovered that most locksmiths are able to supply a key and program it, it wasn't to much of an issue.

Early this week I recieved my key and arranged to get it programed.

The only unfortunate thing, is the key looks like a Commodore key, not that there is anything wrong with a Commodore, but I would of have preferred my own logo on the key body.

I eagerly watched with great anticipation, as the key was turned on for the first time, seeing the dash light up was an exceptional feeling. To be perfectly honest I was expecting to blow fuses, or worse still seeing smoke.

Today I recivied my custom built aluminum radiator. Unfortunately I will not be ably to work on my car until late June (family commitments).
